native instruments fingerWho’s Tim Exile? A ground breaking artist renowned for his expert use of behemoth music software ‘Reaktor’, broken beats specialist, musician and computer music innovator. Reaktor itself has been viewed as a monstrously difficult VSTi to master, but this amazingly talented artist has created and passed to us lesser mortals a bespoke patch from his repertoire and has shaped it into a stand alone and plug-in version to be used and abused with literally one digit of … continue reading ‘Tim Exile gives the Finger’

80’s Synths, Drums ‘n Pop Stars

by Paul Dakeyne, in Music Software, No Comments

howard jonesIt’s official, and has been for a long time.. The 80’s are cool again. The decade of synths, mullets and miners strikes is enjoying a resurgence not only with the ‘40 something’ populace, but the kids too are getting it on to 80’s electro-pop. I’ve just recovered from a ‘Wilde’ weekend in Manchester with some of the ‘Here and Now’ tour artists, namely Kim (and brother Ricky) Wilde, Howard Jones (pictured) and Kid Creole (with his ‘Coconuts’).

What really interests me … continue reading ‘80’s Synths, Drums ‘n Pop Stars’

Battery 3 - Full Power, Half price

by Paul Dakeyne, in Drums, No Comments

Native Instruments Battery 3This is silly.. really silly.. A 50% price drop on this amazing software from Native Instruments. I’m still on Battery 2 but now have no excuse to not upgrade. Battery, alongside Logic 8’s EXS sample playback instrument, is my ‘go to’ solution for drums and percussion. Not only is it ridiculously easy to layer up, edit and manipulate individual percussion hits, the quality and diversity of the actual sounds are truly world-class. … continue reading ‘Battery 3 - Full Power, Half price’

DJ Bravetti - What performance boundary?

by Paul Dakeyne, in New Music / Classic Tunes, No Comments

gustavo1optmz Interested in electronic dance music? Heard of Gustavo Bravetti? If you answer ‘yes’, then ‘no’, then read on and be enlightened. This Uruguay born DJ/Producer/Performer is not exactly ‘new on the scene’, having been making music for 18 years, but maybe with the advent of MySpace, the ever developing world of music technology and our mouse click accessibility into the works and performances of Century 21 artists, his particular star is shining very bright now.

Gustavo is a very talented synth programmer who collaborates with Ableton on numerous ‘creativity upgrade’ videos (and he’s evidently now onboard as a Native Instruments sound designer), has his own YouTube ‘iProduce‘ channel, produces some unique/minimal tech/tribal house, and is … continue reading ‘DJ Bravetti - What performance boundary?’

Maschine und die Mensch!

by Paul Dakeyne, in Music Software, No Comments

maschine_redo

Ok, excuse my none too brilliant German title.. but I’ve been looking deeper into Native Instruments amazing ‘Maschine’…. Currently, all my drums are programmed using a combination of … continue reading ‘Maschine und die Mensch!’
