PRS Guitars 25th Anniversary Models - Part 1

by Marc Noel-Johnson, in Guitars, No Comments

prs-305When Paul Reed Smith started out in the 1970’s building a few guitars at college, I wonder if he ever dreamed that one day he would be up there sharing elbow room with the biggest and most established guitar manufacturers in the world.  His refinements and innovations such as scale length, construction methods, vibrato sytem, pickup design and aesthetics have made  … continue reading ‘PRS Guitars 25th Anniversary Models - Part 1’

Ear Training - A Guitarist’s Note

by Marc Noel-Johnson, in Guitars, No Comments

earmaster-version-5-proThere’s lots of software like this EarMaster 5 Pro which will help musicians develop ear training, attain perfect pitch, and recognize harmony. They are all in their own way excellent tools, more than fit for purpose, and no doubt will do the job adequately.

However, if you’re just learning an instrument, especially the guitar, you may not have the facilities or even the desire to get to grips with software and all that it involves. In fact, most people who learn guitar do so because it doesn’t necessitate learning music in the traditional way. There are millions of guitarists around … continue reading ‘Ear Training - A Guitarist’s Note’

Orange Dual Terror - Gig Report

by Marc Noel-Johnson, in Amplifiers, No Comments

orange dual terrorNo sooner than the Orange Dual Terror had landed in our warehouse, it was whisked off smartly by our very own Digital Village neo-punkists, Hans Briikx, to be shown off to their admiring fans at the Bull and Gate in Kentish Town. This is a great room to play, there are no reflective surfaces causing unwanted frequencies to bounce around, therefore everything can be heard clearly, an ideal situation to evaluate a piece of gear.

Mike Fletcher, Hans Briikx guitar player and DV store manager, told me afterwards that the Dual Terror was a real surprise … continue reading ‘Orange Dual Terror - Gig Report’

Do you support live music? Then sign this petition now!

by Barney Jameson, in Broadcast, Digital & New Media, No Comments

fender guitar Live music is close to all of our hearts here at DV247, not least because most of us are gigging musicians. That’s why when the 2003 Licensing Act came into law, effectively criminalising live music in venues not able to invest in costly licenses, we were appalled.

As UK law stands, if you’re a solo performer playing a guitar, a keyboard or any other musical instrument in a bar, a restaurant, a school or even a hospital that can’t afford to buy the correct license, then both you and the venue are committing a crime.

United break guitars - DV Don’t!

by Paul Dakeyne, in Guitars, No Comments

sons of maxwell united break guitarsIf you’ve ever made a national or international flight, handed over your flight cased treasures and been less than happy with the state they turned up in at your destination, then you’ll find solace here. U.S. band, Sons of Maxwell were taking an inter-state flight recently and whilst sat on board the aircraft, lead singer Dave Carroll was shocked to see the United Airlines baggage handlers treating his flight-cased $3,500 Taylor Guitar to a severe mishandling session! … continue reading ‘United break guitars - DV Don’t!’

Status Quo and their Teles

by Marc Noel-Johnson, in Guitars, No Comments

status-quoWhat a classic picture! Quo at full tilt on day five of Glastonbury. Can’t you just hear those Telecasters (actually that’s an Esquire Rick Parfitt is playing) chugging away through their custom covered white Marshalls?

Despite their own ambivalance to festival gigs and Francis Rossi’s grumpy comments, (it was Sunday morning fer chrissakes!), they rocked the early risers with a medley of their hit. I get it, except for ‘In the Army Now’, a most peculiar song and despite popular myth … continue reading ‘Status Quo and their Teles’

Epiphone EU Award in the bag

by Paul Dakeyne, in Guitars, No Comments

DV Guitars EpiphoneI’m not a guitar player - there, I’ve said it - [never quite getting passed barre chords for some reason] I must however admit huge muso envy for those who can pick up this fine instrument and make it do what it can do. And at DV, there’s tons of the smug blighters ;-)

But credit where credit’s due, and in a shameless bit of back slapping,  I wanted to say congratulations to Paul Hughes and his DV Guitars team for … continue reading ‘Epiphone EU Award in the bag’

513 Reasons to love PRS

by Caleb Hill, in Guitars, No Comments

some other guitar nameI am pretty stubborn when it comes to liking “jack-of-all-trade” guitars. Generally I prefer having a specific guitar for a specific purpose. That way, in my mind, you can always be sure to get the best result. The PRS 513 may be the first guitar to combine all of the tones that … continue reading ‘513 Reasons to love PRS’
