Guitar Hero Gets Kicks From Kasabian
by Paul Dakeyne, in Broadcast, Digital & New Media, No Comments
In our seemingly never ending search for the next weird and wacky ‘controller’, here’s another we get a kick out of… (sorry). Here comes my shortest DV Blog post, and probably the longest sentence, therein: Ladies and, well probably just gentlemen actually, we combine your favourite Saturday afternoon recreation of ‘Footy’ with (mosh pit, ‘geezer’ fave, stadium rockers) Kasabian and round it off with … continue reading ‘Guitar Hero Gets Kicks From Kasabian’
Do you support live music? Then sign this petition now!
by Barney Jameson, in Broadcast, Digital & New Media, No Comments
Live music is close to all of our hearts here at DV247, not least because most of us are gigging musicians. That’s why when the 2003 Licensing Act came into law, effectively criminalising live music in venues not able to invest in costly licenses, we were appalled.
As UK law stands, if you’re a solo performer playing a guitar, a keyboard or any other musical instrument in a bar, a restaurant, a school or even a hospital that can’t afford to buy the correct license, then both you and the venue are committing a crime.

i-Nudge: The OnLine Tenori-On?
by Paul Dakeyne, in Broadcast, Digital & New Media, No Comments
Having already sung the praises of Mercury nominated artist ‘Little Boot’s penchant for the Yamaha Tenori-On, here’s an online interpretation inspired by the unique musical instrument. It’s a simple to program and instantly gratifying online resource that at the very least will have you killing a few hours drifting into dream sequences and chill-trips.. or, at its most useful, birthing a killer loop/melody or rhythm pattern to translate to the bigger screen.. or DAW as it were..
iNudge is a cool little piece of web loveliness that we just had to give you the heads up on. … continue reading ‘i-Nudge: The OnLine Tenori-On?’

One of those wonderful internet, [grab a cup o' coffee and enjoy] moments here. Amanda’s Story Hour on The Fourth Plinth
by David Bell, in Broadcast, Digital & New Media, 1 Comment
I had an awesome time yesterday at the ‘One and Other’ event on the Fourth Plinth in Trafalgar Square. I was so pleased to be a part in such a unique event and meet such a great crowd of people.
Amanda Blakeley, a French teacher from Hertfordshire, had plenty of support from a huge crowd of family and friends. Amanda’s three young children were being really supportive by reading along with the stories. Passers by, especially … continue reading ‘Amanda’s Story Hour on The Fourth Plinth’
Amplifying Fourth Plinth Stories At Trafalgar Square
by David Bell, in Broadcast, Digital & New Media, 2 Comments
Earlier today I received a message from a colleague in the sales team who had received a phone call from Amanda Blakeley.
She is one of the 2400 people chosen to stand on Trafalgar Square’s Fourth Plinth as part of British artist Antony Gormley’s ‘One & Other’ project to represent humanity via a different member of the public every hour, 24 hours a day, for 100 days without a break.

Moyles Westwood Soundclash - Dakeyne Mix Set Opener, Listen, Watch
by Paul Dakeyne, in Broadcast, Digital & New Media, 1 Comment
So at 4.00 pm Sunday, we’re all watching the BBC webcam pointed at the Moyles v. Westwood soundclash - But in a crime against all TV license payers, there’s NO SOUND! Frustrating to watch, but fun to see Chris jumping around whilst Westwood’s head gradually bows lower with the though of donating one of his pimped up rides if he loses. … continue reading ‘Moyles Westwood Soundclash - Dakeyne Mix Set Opener, Listen, Watch’
Swindon Soundclash - On and Rockin’
by Paul Dakeyne, in Broadcast, Digital & New Media, No Comments
Just checked back on Radio 1’s listen again player and indeed what a morning it was. Sometime after playing a rather cool mix from the talented ‘Jaguar Skills‘, Chris then dropped the first 30 seconds or so of my ‘Moyles Mash-Up’ and I certainly had a smile on my face 8-) All the breakfast show team gave it a big thumbs up! So, roll on the ‘Big Weekend’ in … continue reading ‘Swindon Soundclash - On and Rockin’’
Moyles ‘Mash-Up’ Delivered
by Paul Dakeyne, in Broadcast, Digital & New Media, No Comments
A straight 14 hour mixing session, mastering and labeling the CD up with ‘Bristol’ not ‘Swindon’ (well it was three in the morning!), followed by two hours of not too restful sleep.. Shower, and then a taxi to Hull station to catch the 7 a.m. train to London where I was to meet up with Chris Moyles right hand dude, Comedy Dave later that day. And what an enjoyable day it was..
Haven’t seen Dave since the mid 90’s (although we keep in touch reasonably often), it was … continue reading ‘Moyles ‘Mash-Up’ Delivered’
Mixing for Moyles!
by Paul Dakeyne, in Broadcast, Digital & New Media, No Comments
So the great man himself is chatting about his upcoming soundclash at Radio 1’s Swindon ‘Big Weekend‘. Comedy Dave reminds Chris that he has access to the ‘mixmeister’ services of yours truly and next thing you know I’m in the ‘Pop Laboratory’ on what looks like a mammoth ‘mash-up’ session. The plot is to give Moylesey some audio dynamite to blow Tim Westwood off the stage.
With track listing and samples all sorted, everything’s transferred … continue reading ‘Mixing for Moyles!’
Mash-Up’s Are Dead, Long live the Mash-Up!
by Paul Dakeyne, in Broadcast, Digital & New Media, No Comments

With a history of ‘megamixing’ and generally messing about with samples and acapella’s myself, you may think I’m a fan of that 21st century audio phenomenon, the ‘Mash-Up’ - and you’d be right: that is as long as they’re … continue reading ‘Mash-Up’s Are Dead, Long live the Mash-Up!’
